Sharing your personal information

We do not sell, trade, or rent Users personal identification information to others. We may share generic aggregated demographic information not linked to any personal identification information regarding visitors and users with our business partners, trusted affiliates and advertisers for the purposes outlined above. This never includes the gender or ethnicity you choose to give us, except as part of published bias-audit results described below. We use third party service providers to help us operate our business and the Site and to administer activities on our behalf, including the providers described under Automated screening and AI, which explains how each of them may use the information we send.

Automated screening and AI

BootCareers uses automated tools, including artificial intelligence (AI), to help employers find candidates. This section explains what those tools do, what information they use, and the choices you have.

What the tools do

For each open job, usually once a night, our system:

  1. finds candidates whose profiles relate to the job, using keyword matching and a text-similarity model that runs on our own servers;
  2. sends some of those profiles to an AI model operated by a third-party provider, which evaluates how well each candidate's experience fits the job's requirements; and
  3. ranks candidates and shows employers a shortlist. Employers may also receive a message on our Site summarizing their top candidates.

Employers decide whom to contact, interview and hire. Employers can also search for and open candidate profiles directly, without the ranking.

What the tools consider

The tools evaluate job-related qualifications and characteristics:

The information used comes from your profile (job role, skills, summary, employment history, education and training, achievements, what you are looking for, preferred industries), from the text of the résumé you upload, and from public information on a GitHub profile you link.

What the tools do not use

The AI model is instructed to judge the substance of your experience and not to reward or penalize grammar, spelling or English fluency.

Service providers

These providers process candidate information on our behalf:

We use Google's Gemini API under its no-cost terms. Under those terms Google may use the text we send to improve its products and machine-learning technologies, and people at Google may read it after Google disconnects it from our account. That is why we remove names and contact details before sending.

Checking the tools for fairness

Giving your gender and ethnicity is optional. If you give them, they are never shown to employers and are never used to find, evaluate or rank you, or to adjust anyone's ranking. We use them only to measure, in aggregate, whether screening outcomes differ between groups, so that we can find and fix problems. Where the law requires it, we will publish a summary of the results of an independent bias audit.

Your choices

How long we keep screening data

Screening scores for a job are refreshed as the job stays open, and each score drops out of the active shortlist after 14 days. We keep a history of scores while your account exists, so that we can check the tools for accuracy and fairness over time.

Third party websites

Users may find advertising or other content on our Site that link to the sites and services of our partners, suppliers, advertisers, sponsors, licensors and other third parties. We do not control the content or links that appear on these sites and are not responsible for the practices employed by websites linked to or from our Site.
